Safe Sleeping

To reduce the risk of cot death, babies should sleep in parents' room until six months. Bringing your baby into your bed means you can breastfeed in comfort, however, it is easy to fall alseep whilst breastfeeding. There are important points to consider before taking your baby into bed with you.

Bed sharing is NOT appropriate if
- either parent is a smoker
- either parent has been drinking or taken drugs which make them very sleepy
- If pets or older children are sharing the bed
- If on old or sagging matresses or on a sofa

Parents must ensure baby cannot
- Fall off bed
- Get entangled or overheated or become covered with pillows or duvet.

Bed sharing is not recommended for babies of very overweight parents or for formula fed babies.
